You Could Soon Be Receiving Flight Notifications and Delivery Confirmations on Your WhatsApp
What most people predicted after the launch of WhatsApp statuses is coming to fruition.
The messaging app has announced its plans of monetizing the app by charging large corporations to better help them get closer to customers.
WhatsApp plans on providing a free app for small and medium sized businesses.
“The enterprise solution will allow global companies “to provide customers with useful notifications like flight times, delivery confirmations, and other updates”, a report by TechCrunch stated.
The “main details of the monetization is not yet figured out, as said by Chief Operating Officer of WhatsApp, Matt Idema. “We do intend on charging businesses in the future. We do not have the details of the monetization figured out”, he told The Wall Street Journal.
Since Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014 for $19 billion, the company has introduced some major changes to the app, including the Snapchat cloned ‘WhatsApp Status’. According to their promise of not placing ads on the app, their left with a small chance monetization.
This could be the big break for the company to finally rake in some cash.
WhatsApp has 1.9 billion monthly users and 1 billion daily users. It’s the next biggest platform after Facebook with regards to numbers. We’re not too sure how users are going to receive this but it sure will be a good strategy for Facebook.
